We're his parents. We should go talk to him or something.
— Sue to Marcus, grappling over the repercussions of their newly assumed false identities

Sue, born Mary, is a main character on the television series Raised by Wolves. She is portrayed by Niamh Algar.

Mary is a former combat medic and the wife of Caleb, a man who has become a high-ranking soldier for the Mithraic under false pretenses, donning the stolen alias of Marcus.

As the state of the Earth rapidly began to decline during the Religious War in 2145,[2] Mary and Caleb had an android perform surgery on them, in order to make them look like a Mithraic couple set to board the Heaven's Ark and relocate to the new world. After killing the original couple, they assumed Marcus and Sue's identities and boarded The Ark.[2]

Upon doing so, they discovered that the couple had a son, Paul, forcing them to quickly adjust to being his parents without arousing suspicion. They soon realized that Paul's real parents were highly neglectful and borderline abusive, which left him antisocial, traumatized, and knowing very little about his parents' lives. As "Marcus and Sue," they decided to raise him properly over the years that followed, showing him love and affection and allowing him to get to know his, unbeknownst to him, new parents.[3]

Mary's skills as a combat medic have come in useful for the Mithraic from time to time. She has explained "Sue" suddenly acquiring such skills as medicine being something she studied while in the Simulation.[3]

Trivia[]

  • The term "Mary Sue" is a derisive label for a female character regarded to be two-dimensional and lacking in flaws. Sue's real name is Mary, likely a joking reference to this trope.
